Terms of use

These are the rules for using Expanse Courses, the courses published by Pensieve Labs as part of the Pensieve Expanse programme. Using this site means you accept them. They are short, and written to be understood rather than to protect us with long words.

Last updated: 28 August 2026

What these courses are, and what they are not

They are free written lessons that you read on this site. Each course is a set of short lessons in order, with a practice task at the end of each one. That is the whole product. There is nothing to buy, no fee later, and no paid version with more in it.

Being clear about what we are not matters just as much.

  • We are not a school, a college or a university. We are not attached to any education board, university or government body, and we are not approved or recognised by one.
  • There is no degree, diploma or certificate. We do not issue one, for any fee or for free. If anybody offers you a certificate in our name, it is not from us.
  • There is no exam, no marks and no attendance. The ticks you put on finished lessons are a note for yourself, not a record anyone else will accept.
  • We do not promise a job, an admission, an income, or a result in any exam. Anyone using the Pensieve Expanse name to promise you those things is not us. Please tell us if you see it.
  • We are not connected to any AI company. We teach you to use tools made by others. We do not speak for them, we are not paid by them, and what their apps do can change without telling us.

The lessons are teaching material, not professional advice

Everything on this site is general education. It is not advice about your situation, and reading it does not create any professional relationship between you and Pensieve Labs. What you choose to do with what you learn is your decision and your responsibility.

Four subjects where you must check an official source

AI tools answer in a confident voice even when they are wrong. They invent rules, amounts and dates that sound completely correct. Never act on an AI answer about these four subjects until you have checked it against an official source:

  • Money. Bank rules, loans, interest, insurance, investment, tax. Check with your own bank branch, or on the official website of the bank, the Reserve Bank of India or the Income Tax department.
  • Medicine and health. A symptom, a dose, a medicine, a treatment, whether to go to hospital. Ask a qualified doctor. An AI answer is not a diagnosis and must never delay real care.
  • Law. Your rights, the police, a court case, a contract, land or property, marriage, employment. Ask a lawyer, or read the official text of the law itself.
  • Government schemes. Whether you are eligible, how much you get, which documents are needed, the last date. Check the official portal of that scheme or department, or ask at the office. A wrong last date can cost you a whole year.

The same care applies to our own lessons. They are written and checked with real effort, and many carry the date they were last checked, but rules and apps change after we publish. Where a lesson gives a figure, a price or a rule, treat it as the position on the date shown, and check anything you are about to act on.

Using the site fairly

You are welcome to read every lesson, do the practice tasks, take notes, and send the links to anybody. In return, please do not do these things:

  • Try to get past the sign-in, reach information that belongs to another learner, or break into any part of this site.
  • Copy the site automatically at a rate that slows it down or costs us hosting, or attack it in any way.
  • Use the site or our name to mislead people, to sell something in our name, or to pretend that you are us.
  • Spoil the site for other learners, or break Indian law.

If you do any of this we may close your account and block access, without notice where the harm is serious. For something unlawful we may also report it to the authorities. We would much rather never have to.

Your account belongs to you alone

One account is for one person. Do not let somebody else use yours, and do not use an account that belongs to somebody else. Anything done under your account is treated as done by you.

If you sign in with your mobile number, remember that anyone holding that SIM can receive the one-time password. Keep your phone locked, and write to us if you lose that number so we can help you secure the account.

We will never ask you for your password or your one-time password. Not by call, not by SMS, not by email, not ever. Anybody who asks for it in our name is trying to cheat you.

You can ask us to close your account at any time by writing to expanse@pensievelabs.org. The privacy policy explains exactly what is deleted when you do.

The lessons, the images and the design of this site are copyright Pensieve Labs, unless a page says otherwise. That said, the reason we wrote them is for them to be used, so here is what you may do without asking us for anything.

You may

  • Read every lesson, as many times as you like.
  • Use what you learn in your own study, your own job or your own business, and keep the benefit of it. We claim nothing over your work.
  • Save or print a page for your own use, or to read again when you have no data.
  • Teach a friend, a sibling or a parent from what you learned, in your own words.
  • Share a link to any lesson with anybody, anywhere. Linking is always allowed and never needs our permission.

Please do not

  • Copy a lesson or a whole course and publish it somewhere else as your own work, whether on a website, an app, a video channel or a PDF.
  • Sell the lessons, or put them behind a fee of your own.
  • Translate a lesson and publish the translation without asking us first. We want translations. We want them accurate, and with the source credited.
  • Use the names Pensieve Labs, Pensieve Expanse or Expanse Courses, or our logo, in a way that suggests we made your product or that we endorse it.

If you are a teacher, a college, an NGO or a training centre and you want to use these lessons with your learners, write to expanse@pensievelabs.org. The answer is almost always yes, in writing, and free. That is the use we hoped for.

Names of other products mentioned in the lessons belong to the companies that own them. We use those names only to say what we are teaching about.

Availability, and what we do not promise

This is a free service run by a small team. We work to keep it online and correct, but we cannot promise it. The site may be unavailable for maintenance, or because of a fault at our hosting provider or somewhere on the network, sometimes without warning.

Lessons may be edited, renumbered, moved or withdrawn as we improve a course, and a course may change shape. Your progress marks are kept in your account and on your phone, but they are not a permanent record. If a note of what you finished matters to you, keep your own copy as well.

The site and the lessons are provided as they are, with no warranty of any kind. We do not warrant that they are free of mistakes, that they will be available when you want them, or that they will suit a particular purpose you have in mind.

So far as Indian law allows, Pensieve Labs is not liable for any loss or damage that follows from using this site, from it being unavailable, or from acting on something you read here or on something an AI tool told you. Nothing in these terms takes away a right you have under Indian law that cannot be given up.

These terms are governed by the law of India, and any dispute about them belongs to the courts of India. If one part of them turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still stands.

When these terms change

We change the date at the top of this page whenever we change the text. For a small change, such as clearer wording, that is all we do. For a real change to your rights or ours, we will put a notice on the site before it takes effect.

If you keep using the site after a change, that means you accept the new terms. If you do not accept them, please stop using the site, and write to expanse@pensievelabs.org if you also want the account deleted.

How to contact us

Pensieve Labs, for the Pensieve Expanse programme. Write to expanse@pensievelabs.org for anything: a mistake you found in a lesson, permission to use the material with learners, a report of somebody misusing our name, a request to close your account, or a question about these terms. A person reads it.

The privacy policy covers what we do with information about you, and the about page explains who we are and how the courses stay free.
